Terms of Reference
The Protection Assistant is a key member of the UNHCR Protection Unit, reporting to the Assistant Protection Officer or other designated protection staff. This role involves supporting the UNHCR case management unit. The position requires significant fieldwork to assess and address the needs of refugees and asylum seekers at individual level.
* Duties and Responsibilities

Provide counseling to refugees and asylum seekers on their rights and available services.

Conduct individual protection assessments to identify the needs of refugees and asylum seekers at an individual level.

Make necessary referrals to specialized protection services based on assessment outcomes and ensure follow up and accompaniment if necessary.

Assist in case management for the most vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers, including development of a case plan, follow-up, and documentation of cases.

Maintain accurate records of assessments and referrals.

Participate in field visits to conduct assessments and provide support to refugees.

Assist in resolving issues and challenges related to protection assessments and referrals.

Assist in drafting reports, routine correspondence and updating relevant databases.

Observe and respect protection related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Perform other related duties as required.
* Minimum qualifications required
Work experience:
-
Mandatory: For G5 - 2 years relevant experience with High School Diploma; or 1-year relevant work experience with Bachelor or equivalent or higher
Desirable: Previous experience working with refugees and asylum seekers is a strong advantage for this position. Language Requirements
Arabic and French are required while working knowledge of English is desirable.
