Roles & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Infrastructure team, the Microsoft Systems Engineer collaborates on the design, implementation, security, and operational maintenance (MCO) of server architectures. An expert in the Microsoft Windows Server ecosystem and IT hardware, they ensure the high availability, performance, and scalability of the company's physical and virtual servers.
Responsibilities and Missions
1. Hardware and Virtualization Management
- Hardware Architecture : Size, install, configure and maintain physical servers (Blade/blade servers, HPE ProLiant type rack servers, Dell PowerEdge, Lenovo ThinkSystem).
- Storage & Local Network Management : Configure associated storage technologies (SAN, NAS, RAID cards, vSAN) and manage server network connectivity (network cards, virtual switches).
- Virtualization : Administering and optimizing hypervisors (mainly Microsoft Hyper-V or VMware ESXi in a mixed environment), managing failover clusters (Failover Clustering).
- Physical maintenance : Ensuring follow-up of manufacturer warranties, replacement of defective components (disks, RAM, power supplies) and capacity management (Capacity Planning).
2. Windows Server OS & Core Services Administration
- Deployment and Lifecycle : Automate OS provisioning (Windows Server 2019 / 2022 / 2025) via system images (WDS, MDT, or SCCM/MECM).
- Active Directory Services : Manage AD DS architecture, replication, DNS services, DHCP, and design/optimize group policies (GPO).
- Operational Maintenance : Manage security patches (Patch Management) via WSUS or Azure Update Manager.
- Automation : Develop industrial configuration and maintenance scripts in PowerShell.
3. Monitoring, Security and Backup
- Monitoring : Analyze server and hardware performance metrics (via SCOM, PRTG, Zabbix, or manufacturer tools like HPE iLO / Dell iDRAC).
- Security (Hardening) : Apply best practices for OS hardening (CIS Benchmarks), access rights management (Less privilege, AD Tiering).
- Backup and Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) : Configure and test system and hardware backup policies (Veeam Backup & Replication, Azure Backup).
Desired Candidate Profile
Qualifications- Education : Bachelor's +3 to Master's +5 in Computer Science (Professional Bachelor's, Engineering School or Specialized Master's in Systems and Networks).
- Experience : Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a similar role as Administrator or System Engineer in a production environment.
- Certifications (a valuable plus) :
- Microsoft certifications (e.g. Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate).
- Manufacturer certifications (HPE, Dell).
