Senior Project Manager

  • The Munathara Initiative is a registered non-profit organization founded in 2012 with offices in Washington D.C. and Tunis, Tunisia.
  • The Initiative aims at creating an independent and inclusive discussion and debate platform in the MENA region.
  • The Munathara Initiative is working to provide everyone in the Arabic-speaking world with a voice regardless of their age, gender or background in order to create a public sphere characterized by evolvability and tolerance towards different points of view.

Job Purpose

  • The Senior Project Manager will oversee the overall delivery and budget management of projects and will be responsible for reporting on progress to senior management and donors.
  • He/she will ensure effective relationships and partnerships with a wide range of partners.
  • Maintaining relationships with donors and ensuring accurate, cost-effective, and timely financial & narrative reporting will be a key part of the role.
  • The Senior Project Manager will also be responsible for identifying further funding opportunities that meet the development of Munathara’s activity and will take the lead on writing successful proposals.
  • The Senior Project Manager will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer. S/he will work in Tunisia/Lebanon.
  • The role will require coordination with the different organization’s departments and the incumbent shall have the necessary skills and qualifications to fulfill the role and meet the projects’ requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design, planning and implementation of projects & activities and manage the projects’ budget.
  • Ensure the delivery of outputs is in line with the budget as well as with Munathara’s financial procedures and the donor’s operating guidelines.
  • Make sure the project activities are aligned with Munathara’s editorial standards and values.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project reports and documentation.
  • Lead the reporting process, both internally to Munathara and externally to partners, donor(s), and other relevant parties.
  • Make effective & evidence-based decisions when delivering & presenting the project.
  • Communicate progress and plans to senior management and the team to keep the project aligned with their goals.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders including donors and other relevant third parties.
  • Develop and propose new projects activities such as seeking opportunities through networking, leading the development, and writing of new proposals and playing a key role in responding to funding opportunities.
  • Monitor and evaluate the projects’ performance using appropriate project management tools and techniques; adjust project delivery as necessary based on research and feedback findings.
  • Manage the project management team, supporting them to build their capacity and develop their skills for effective contribution to planned activities and ensure successful implementation.

Skills & Requirements

  • University Degree in the appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience
  • Considerable working experience (+5 years) developing and managing large-scale, donor-funded projects in a developing-country context, preferably in the MENA region.
  • Proven ability to develop and secure new donor-funded projects, including ability to develop new business ideas and present them persuasively to potential partners and funders.
  • Proven experience writing successful donor-funded proposals that incorporate project research and development, logframes, budgets, etc.
  • Strong financial management skills, with proven experience managing complex medium to large budgets for donor-funded projects and knowledge of donor’s reporting requirements.
  • Experience managing teams and developing & improving internal management systems and processes.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with the different partners and stakeholders including donors.
  • Excellent communication (both written and oral), presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining deadlines.
  • Experience working on own initiative; excellent decision-making skills.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills including attention to detail and ability to assess risks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Arabic, English, and French.
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)

  • Experience working in a non-profit organization specifically in the field of media/communications within the MENA region.
  • Demonstrable editorial judgment skills and understanding of Munathara’s editorial values, or demonstrable potential to acquire strong editorial skills in order to help make sensitive editorial judgements at a senior level.
