The African Association of Automotive Manufacturers (AAAM) invites you to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in advancing the automotive sector across Africa. You will represent the interests of our members and contribute to the industrialization and growth of the industry on the continent.


The AAAM is a private sector automotive association with members from across Africa that comprise Global OEMs, Assemblers, Component Manufacturers and service providers that can support the development of effective Automotive eco-systems. The AAAM’s vision is to expand and deepen the automotive industry across the continent by working with African governments to develop, shape and implement policies and ecosystems that aim to attract automotive investors and unlock the economic potential of the Continent and that support the development of the Continental free trade area. The AAAM provides advice for industrialisation and growth with an alignment and understanding of what different countries could do best within the automotive industry to drive scale and achieve the goals of the AfCFTA.


We are looking for a full time Project Manager working for AAAM based in Tunis, Tunisia on a contract basis.


AAAM offers you the opportunity to become part of a dynamic team, to get to know the wide range of work and communication topics of the African Association of Automotive Manufacturers (AAAM) by supporting the association in representing the interests of our members, whilst industrialising and growing the auto sector on the continent.


The scope of work for this position includes:

  • The primary objective of this position is the development and growth of the Auto Industry in North Africa.
  • To identify and lead projects that will increase new vehicle demand in North Africa including efficient used vehicle ecosystems for auto policy programme vehicles.
  • Drive complementary manufacturing and trade opportunities in vehicles and components across the region in order to achieve scale with deep integration of the region into the AfCFTA. Work with the AAAM Policy team to structurally enable this complementarity.
  • An important role is to grow component manufacturing and trade in the region and across Africa which will result in competitive auto value chains supplying into vehicle assemblers and replacement parts.
  • Facilitate partner opportunities between existing OEM component manufacturers and AfCFTA manufacturers wanting to enter the OEM and aftermarket value chains.
  • Arrange auto industry study tours to North Africa to drive collaboration, knowledge sharing and business opportunities.
  • Scaling up of the R&D expertise in North Africa with an extension into other AfCFTA countries where the opportunity arises.
  • Cooperation and coordination with other associations, business chambers and political institutions whilst establishing and maintaining strong relationships with regulatory authorities and all other stakeholders including members and donors.
  • Support the development of AAAM as a professional association and as the voice of the automotive industry in Africa, whilst maintaining a professional image that reflects positively on AAAM and builds trust and support from all stakeholders.
  • Coordination of the development of new services for AAAM to create the appropriate value proposition that effectively delivers AAAM’s objectives whilst growing the AAAM membership base across Africa.
  • Participate in AAAM Working Groups and collaborate effectively with AAAM’s expert team/advisors to support your project work where required.
  • Fiscal management of your specific aspect of the project including budget calculation and monitoring.


Job profile:

  • Degree in engineering or similar tertiary qualification.
  • Relevant professional experience for at least 5 years in manufacturing preferably in component manufacturing.
  • The ability to effectively see/create linkages between manufacturers in Africa.
  • Understand the options in the journey of industrialisation for an infant industry in Africa.
  • Knowledge and understanding of project management.
  • Conceptual and implementation skills, communication skills (good verbal and written language skills).
  • A high degree of flexibility, initiative and an independent and structured way of working, enjoyment of a dynamic and varied field of activity and teamwork are indispensable.
  • Business fluent written and spoken English as well as a good knowledge of the common software (MS-Office) is essential.
  • The ability to speak French and English would be an advantage.
  • The ability to engage effectively with a broad base of stakeholders in Africa; developing and maintaining sound relationships are important to this position.
  • Good regional expertise in North Africa.
  • Prepared to travel in Africa as required.
